Google Tech Talk November 17, 2009 ABSTRACT Presented by Rick Doblin, Ph.D., Executive Director MAPS. We’re now in the midst of a worldwide renaissance in psychedelic research, after decades of political suppression. Scientists from around the world will present their new findings at the largest psychedelic conference to take place in the US in 17 years, on April 15-18, 2010, in San Jose, CA (www.maps.org ). Even media reports, which usually mention in passing the widespread use of psychedelics by the counterculture in the 1960s, are more hopeful than alarming. In this talk, we’ll review the factors which led to the backlash and the lessons to be learned, discuss how the FDA opened the door to research around the world, how the ghost of Timothy Leary was buried at Harvard, and how Burning Man struggles to respond to people who have difficult psychedelic experiences. We’ll conclude by explaining how non-profit drug development, initially of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for postraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), can transform psychedelics into FDA-approved prescription medicines and can lay the groundwork for the successful, long-term integration of psychedelics into the mainstream of medicine, religion, art, creativity, and celebration. Rick founded MAPS in 1986. His dissertation [www.maps.org (Public Policy, Harvards Kennedy School of Government) was on “The Regulation of the Medical Use of Psychedelics and Marijuana,” and his masters thesis [www.maps.org (Harvard) focused …

“Cool beans” doesn’t bother me. “Have a good one” is what drives me crazy. Seriously….have a good WHAT? A good day? A good night? A good time? A good lay? Shut up and take your Despondex
LOL the natural way to feel shitty : junk food and sitting on your ass lmao
This needs to be dished out to the majority of Facebook users so I can stop reading about how great of a time everyone had every day
How sad. I am glad there is a treatment available for these poor souls.
This doctor sure is sad….
LMFAO. This is hilarious.
@russjones1000 Calm down, the Onion is a satirical news source.
There already is a drug that does that; it’s called, “Ritalin.”
If only this was true.
its just like kids in the halls brain candy . they ripped this idea off
I hate those cheery cunts.
Sad thing is that many people would buy this for their classmates, spouse, mother, children, etc. if it were true…
“Now Jeff and I can just waste a night sitting on the couch, watching a tv show neither of us enjoy” *Agreeing Sound* “Like a normal couple” loool so funny. Cool beans… jkes
PROZIUM?
@Stealthsuit07 lol xD… oh shit I think I need that drug!!
COOL BEANS!
finally a cure for people like me
Wait wait wait wait wait, according to the 1913 Webster dictionary that The Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48 keeps referencing for some reason, “cheery” is synonymous with all three provided definitions of gay. So these prescription depressants are for people who are insufferably gay? Get some of that shit to Marcus Bachmann!
Some girls at my school need this-_-
Love it! So funny yet so sad as this is exactly what psychiatry is all about.
I am a bit scared of big Pharma and any prescription drug. I always look for a natural remedy first. I have found a good substitute for Despondex is looking at my bank statement.
Cool beans!!!
If only this was real.
Everyone at my dentist’s office needs this ASAP!
personalized license plates ! LOL
@russjones1000 This video is a joke, dumbass, lmao.
@NativeSonPublishers hmmm. I think I could agree with that. But you say thriteenth step, shouldn’t these substances just be regulated and sold purely, but highly taxed and highly age restricted? No disrespect
I have seen serious problems from the non-ritualized use of mushrooms and acid. I believe these substances connect the subconscious to the wrong spirits, and should not be played with. In our Ceremony, centuries old, we are healed by Peyote, from many ailments, including alcoholism and addiction. That is what my book is about; soon available reviewed by a Harvard Psychiatrist. It is miraculous! The Thirteenth Step.
It’s astounding to see this research being continued under governement authorised supervision…research done in the sixties indicated that there was potentially significant benefits of medically supervised psychedelic therapy ..one of the more interesting studies involved hardened criminals..the re-offending rate for those participants was statisically lower than the general population…Im also amazed to see this lecture was sponsored by Google Tech!! Can I get a job there??
most “normal” people i know get thier panties in a bunch if i talk about MJ… just the topic of psychedelics make them squirm in their seat.
@TheNaramatu I generally do have a vocabulary, but when I’m stoned on youtube I tend to swear. If I had taken lsd in the past month maybe I’d have more to say, but it’s been so long since I’ve tripped that I really don’t have anything more to say than if you take acid, your going to have deep, profound revelations about your life.Good or bad, it’s still truth.I mean the only bad trip I’ve ever had was from repressed emotions. It can be scary to come face to face with what youve been running from
“I actually got college credit for suing the DEA” Very productive.
@DarthNorris84 It’s important to find a vocabulary so you can have a talk with someone about this someday. Problem is you can’t even have a conversation without people coming completely undone it seems. LSD is a drug which may cause insanity in those who have never taken it. MAPS is awesome and Rick Doblin is a champ. These are miracles, not drugs, drugs make you nod out or grind your teeth out of your gums, they don’t put your brain in front of you to see how it reacts to thoughts and persona
who is the opening speaker? thanks for putting this up!!!!
I don’t care whether what I’ve experienced while tripping is valid or not..Anybody who gets off on psychedelic knows that the shit is completely worth it..They are the greatest compounds you could be taking..Seriously. I don’t even like drinking that much anymore. When I’m drunk I just feel numbed, and actually quite shitty compared to the amazing experience from these drugs. I don’t care if some people think they are “bad”. They’re just missing out
Ingesting Psilocybin comes with apprehension, guilt and fear, because the “Ego or self” (conditioning), has a fair idea it is about to be dissolved into nothingness, to a certain degree. This is uncomfortable as the experiences starts to encapsulate your being, but this seems to be part of the ritual as you approach the Event Horizon into the magnificent and mystical psychedelic realm. That said, the psychedelic experience gives insight into realms of connectiveness, love, art and wonder.
@Libertyforall1776 I think it’d be helpful if MAPS and Erowid started drawing off of eachother’s knowledge and experience.
@ParadoxUncreated “Satan however, is real. It is not shadow self. Satan is a spirit that whispers, and is not part of the self. ” – and for someone else it is 6 foot long rabbit so yeah… please fix your sentences “it APPEARS to ME” … ” for ME” etc
do not confuse your fantasia or your reality with something else.
I have also been in “hell” in one trip – and it really was, with all the burning and the satan, pain etc . but i would NEWER start to convince anyone that it was “REAL thing”.
Read “The Quran”.
@ParadoxUncreated-interesting points. I have considered these possibilities. What I’ve determined is that these drugs have the potential to bring you closer to God. Intent really is the key. I also think that the “satan” thing you’re talking about is simply the complicated process of learning about your shadow self. There is nothing that could defeat God, therefore I have no fear. And I think you’re wrong that nobody has deciphered it, it’s just that it’s a very difficult process.
@ParadoxUncreated “They did not use drugs, that would be to see a drugged God, since consciousness is God itself. They did not use drugs, because that would not be a description of Gods reality, but decriptions of a drugged reality, and that is what most LSD experiences are.”
It’s nice when people defeat their own arguments.
@ParadoxUncreated “Think for yourself, and that is what religion tries to teach you” if there is something religion does NOT teach you, it is thinking for your self.
@ParadoxUncreated so er, you don’t think that the original people claiming to have spoken to G-d weren’t on some kind of psychedelic? Convenient that they tell YOU not to take ‘em and you believe them – wouldn’t want YOU seeing G-d the same way they did, you might not follow their rules anymore!
@ParadoxUncreated every single one of your pathetic arguements have used religon as the base of them , unfortunately there are alot more religons in this world than one , so stop trying to forcefeed your bullshit to everyone on here. if psychedelics were legalised , you wouldnt HAVE to do them , so let people lie and stop spurting your religous bullshit on youtube , and let people do what they want.
I’m not surprised about paradoxxuncreated,i just viewed one of his videos and was creeped out…dude has some issues.
thank you Rick for the information that i gained from this video.i live in sarasota. how do we get fla to start the ball rolling to legalize cannabis
Jack Nicholson has been as user of Lsd and cocaine,
Grover Cleveland who was the 24 president of Usa was a heavy cocaine user , ANgelia Jolie has used LSD, Cocaine, Heroin, MDMA, Cannabis
ELton John is a cocaine user
Gary Grant was a user of Lsd
BIll gates has pubicly stated that he has used Lsd

Right, Paradox, in world war 2 meth was given to soilders to keep them fighting , Hitler was heavily into methamphetamine and barbiturates , George Washington used weed, Edgar Allen Poe used opium , Stephen King is a user of cocaine and said this about cocaine : “without coke I’d have gone on drinking until about the age of 55 and it would have been a couple of lines in the New York Times: ‘Writer Stephen King dies of stroke.’
Sherlock HOlmes used cocaine daily
We will have drugs legalized in the end, Lsd is a fun drug althougha rather odd one , I was drinking the air and eating sounds on Lsd very fun indeed . I would recomned everybody to try Lsd , Magic mushrooms and speed . all great drugs
ANd hei ive not only been a god on Lsd , i got into a fight with god and kicked the shit out of god
